How the state process works

Notice. Meetings. Records. Review.

Public Act 233 created an MPSC siting path for qualifying utility-scale projects. A 254 MW wind proposal exceeds the law’s 100 MW wind threshold.

  1. 01

    Offer to meet

The applicant must offer in writing to meet with each affected local unit’s chief elected official at least 60 days before the scheduled public meeting.

  2. 02

    Public meeting notice

The applicant must notify affected local units at least 30 days before the meeting and submit site plans to township clerks.

  3. 03

    Public notice

Notice must be published in a newspaper of general circulation for each affected city or township, or through a comparable digital alternative, at least 14 days before the public meeting.

  4. 04

    Application and contested case

If an MPSC application is filed, affected townships and participating and nonparticipating property owners may seek to participate in the case.
